Norberg-Schulz discusses the relationship between character and space. Any real presence is intimately linked with a character. He repeatedly mentions the functional demand of different actions for places with different characters. His definition of phenomenology focuses on the investigation of character and its accompanying concrete determinants. His approach was intentionally broad to further solidify the complexity of phenomenology in the classification of space and place.
