Data Dimensions

“Being able to sense a city allows for consideration of the application of operating mechanisms at an urban scale, which actuate the city based on what is sensed about its dynamics in real time.” What I really appreciated about this article was its thorough ability to communicate how much of a role science should and can have within design nowadays. Within landscape architecture especially, the role of data intake regarding environmental factors directly influenced by climate change like zoning changes, as well as the adjustment and potential extinction of sensitive native species. This is an important investment cities should be making towards protecting their public space from threats of noise pollution and heat exposure, but also use it to inform which spaces are productive for collecting and filtering of individuals. I felt the authors clearly laid out beneficial application of Arduino sensing and how positive it will be moving forward for sustainably informed design.
