Data Dimension – Carlo Ratti
Carlo Ratti discusses the various methods of data collection that are now made possible by a network of automated sensors. These can be used to measure instances of community engagement in real time. Data can also be informative to the inhabitants of the city and can be made widely available through the use of an app. We are considering something similar in our design, as we propose sound sensors that send data directly to an app to allow parents to monitor noise levels. This is a non-invasive but rather informative process, as Ratti also discusses the importance of data privacy. A combination of datasets can result in a desirable outcome that fits the narrative of the design.
