08B Final Review Comments

Comments:
– Weave the the concept of “care” as defined through from preliminary research to define intervention parameters.
– Define the stance of the project — the concept of care and feminism in urban design is not neutral.
– Refine the visualization of mapping and data collection.
Possible group revisions:
– Though we defined the three elements of care, I think that it is also critical that we examine the types of care that are present in public space currently and how our project will support and expand on the physical elements of care.
– Cataloging the physical aspect of care will help us to build narratives that Cynthia and Mary mentioned were missing in the development of project. I think this was not refined in the design concepts phase and I find that tying the theoretical context with our design, such as by working on defining appropriate dimensions and conditions that can positively impact care can help strengthen our design intent.
– In regards to the maps and data collection part of our project, composing the maps so that they tie in with the 3 areas of care — such that if we are investigating the presence of current “community care” elements, we can define them as civic buildings, libraries, casals and other collective spaces that establish an environment where care is supported. Define current and future urban space through these three components might help to make our project much clearer.

Comments:
– Mary mentioned building personas/narratives about how the sidewalk in front of Mercadona is currently being used.
– Gabino also noted that it would be beneficial to show how care is enhanced by nature as part of biophilia concept
Possible individual revisions:
– The idea of personas/narratives is very intriguing and am curious to apply it to the development of the sidewalk. I think it would be interesting to visualize current interaction- how are people gathering and how does it change throughout the day combined with the data we have collected in order to build a persona. When looking into the API persona, I found a project on data gathering from public sources by Civis and the Albina Vision Trust that I think would be relevant to explore for this.
– Though I was focused primarily on seating, I think it would be important to also consider how to best define and delineate green space (is it integrated directly with seating, is it above/below, adjacent) and how they may improve a user’s access/connection with nature.
