Design Intervention Description, Phenomena and data
Please do the follow below in a WordPress Post category [08A  Design Description].

Read and use as one of your theory references below: Anchoring by Steven Holl

Please follow the instructions below:

I) Research questions (list 2):

II) Abstract, 300 word max, 2 paragraphsParagraph 1, General (150 words)
What is the sensory phenomena (sound, light, touch, smell, human fit) of your intervention and who does it specifically serve (demographic)?
How do do people experience it?
Why is it important?Paragraph 2, specific (150 words)
What exact media / methods will you use investigate the design process (physical model for light, Arduino sensor for light, sound, heat, digital light simulation Vray, Ladybug psychometric chart, Ladybug Radiance, )?
Exactly how do you study (not simulate or draw) and test that phenomena? What is each step?
III)   Outline  (do NOT write sentence) List subheaders below

1)  Copy abstract here

2) Background theory
Cite 3 writings / media from the reading list about the topic and how they relate.  (3 ink diagrams of Points and Lines – See Field Conditions by Stan Allen

3) Contextualization
precedent examples from public art, design, arch or landscape arch.  (insert thumbnail of each)

4) Methods. General inputs and parameters, software and media types; time parameters.  (icons or thumbnail of software or examples)

4) Data Collection (Nuria + return to site)

5) Analysis how to assess success and
How to test your intervention? (Back into circle tool, ask colleagues for their opinion, install something as a test in public space like balloons and observe, etc)

6) Findings

7) Conclusions
What are your expected outcomes?

August 8, 2022 – Nuria

  • Make GIF of 20 pics (smart phone) of one second each of joyful moments. Keep this private.
  • You may use any gif techniques…control time, repeat slides, edit a slide and repeat it, consider the sequence (watch some Tarantino movies), zoom way in / zoom way out. Edit / don’t edit. *do not share these gif movies with anyone. Use your sketchbook if you like to storyboard this series of moments.

Phenomenology
What causes moments and how do designers create various experiences that are anchored in cultural and natural forces specific to a place? How does this change over the day and season? How can design relate phenomena like light to function or experience that transcends ordinary time and space?

Diagram, Points + Lines or Wash (with pen)
Look at your GIF movie *STOP –
don’t show anyone!

Name and write down 15 impressionable (feelings as light) moments from your movie.

1. We will create a circle diagram centered on your
paper.
Use a page in your notebook and a pencil or pen. Use a pencil to make small crosses at
the 0, 90, 180, 270 degrees of the circle. Make a light cross at each of the locations in time of
your chosen moments along the circle (full circle is 15 seconds)

2. At each of the 15 moments marked previously,
make a 1″x1″ point or line digram swatch of the named
feeling interpreted as light. See image in RCR
Arquitectes, Joan Olivera Biblioteca,
Barcelona

3. Darken key moments. Connect some moments
with light or delicate  lines  (dashed or dotted).
What patterns emerge between the moments, across
time, or across space? NAME these pattern ideas.

Theory seminar
– resubmit outline only

– explain phenomena data collection and conceptual diagram using up to three Nuria hikes (first day, Puigmal or Aigues, Vall to Queralbs / other)
analysis is application to Barcelona climate and culture, and application to your user group and related to your chosen categories and qualities.
findings about what patterns you realized and how it informed your design, and the communication type of your design (line drawing or rendering)
conclusion (wait until after Tuesday)
