Toward New Horizons
Tadao Ando in “Toward New Horizons in Architecture” takes a philosophical approach to design in the modernistic era. He constanstly states that architecture is being distanced from functionality. Comparing Japanese culture to that of the western world, one that is completely materialsitic based and has distanced itself from the beauty of nature. “In contemporary society, architecture is determined by economic factors and mediocrity”, this quote was one of my favorites in the reading because I completely agree. Architecture today is a combination of financial decisions and certainly the beauty of the design has been lost in translation. At the end of the day, someone is paying for the project, simple as that.
