Toward New Horizons In Architecture- Tadao Ando 

Ando’s writing introduces the idea of the connection between nature and architecture as having a tension through its connectivity with each other, In regards to this terms design, my group and i found it essential to provide an open space for children that is expressed through ecological forums as a means of wayfinding and a health resource. This is connected to Ando’s piece as it demonstrates how the connection between design and nature are purposely linked to work intimately with one another. 

Intro to the Phenomenon of Place – Christian Norberg-Schulz

Schulz provides the theory of how materiality and color have an overall symbolic significance to the structure as it expands the building’s boundary into nature. As a result of this, it connected to the project that I am working on this term, through the choices of plants used in our design. Looking into the country’s flowers and colors that are linked with iconic symbols of Barcelona as a method of creating a connection to the public. By connecting to the public my group and I are able to provide a significant cultural relationship between occupant and place. 

Phenomenon of Place – Christian Norberg-Schulz

Looking at the phenomenon of place as a means of its character or, loci, to capture the essence will allow for greater connectivity between occupant and place. Schulz’s perspective of using nature to exude the character of a place is well described as it links how it can be manifested in various ways by man. In the example of my group and i we are manifesting the character of our place by using nature as means of health, safety and beauty, attributing it then be used to its full capacity.
