ASSIGNMENT 01 GRACIA: SUPERILLES = GRACIA **ASSIGNED VISIT FRIDAY, SATURDAY OR SUNDAY NIGHT
We did a lot of walking this week. In an age of Google street view there is still a different sensory experience walking in a city for the first time.
Please review the Maritime Metropolis link, also found under the Neighborhoods page tab.
Gracia
Below is a drawing of Gracia from 10 Lessons on Barcelona Please do that reading – no quiz so read it quickly maybe before going to Gracia and then look for topics. The drawings describes how autonomous developments occurred, each around a square (almost like a cul-de-sac). Today this results in an overall organization that does not line up, streets that rarely continue more than three blocks and square with a feeling of privacy since you cant see into them from very far away. These squares are the model public spaces for the new Superilles we are studying here BCNecologia_Presentacio Superilles.
autonomous developments agglomerate together.
Festes de Gracia
Plaza de la Vila Gracia
**Please visit 3-5 plazas tonight or Saturday night (important that it is at night). Use your smart phones and data plans to locate and even pin into a Google Map – https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/
Make a new map and save it – note where the file is saved to your Google account.
Next week we will show you have to export the Google map as a KML file and then convert to CSV! Otherwise even I get lost in Gracia! Slope is the only orientation (yes, there is an app for that).
**Use Elk to draw the 3-5 files as per yesterday’s Passeid de Borne exercise – the first main drawings with urban walls, change of plan (curbs) and any ordering devices such as trees or lights.
