Salvador Rueda’s framework stated that there are three categories that makes a space successful for social interaction and cohesion. The primary category is more of the attributes of the space itself, looking at access to social spaces, housing, services, and job access. The second category looks at the users of the space, in terms of age and income. Along with that, culture plays a strong role. Age is a huge aspect in itself as if the space is mostly younger in age the culture will be way different than that of an older generation. Spaces need to be developed with an age group in mind. Not to say that the two couldn’t be mixed together, but there will be a stronger presence on one side. Lastly, how accessible in the space to others. Transit is a major issue in today’s society. Everyone is looking to save energy and alternative moods of transportation. A well-developed transit system could mean the success of the space. Connectivity to not only surrounding areas, but we have to look at the infrastructure to gain information. We are used to having information at our fingertips, and a system of cables that allow us to access the information is going to be vital to the residence and visitors if the space. Rueda looks at these three categories as a way of life, there all fit on the same circle, and one doesn’t work without the other.

Social spaces – these spaces are important in high density areas. Thy provide that escape from the indoors and allow for community members to get fresh air. Trees could be added to provide shade, and shelters provide spaces that are more private in these social spaces. These spaces see temperature variations, they can be extremely hot and no one wants to be in these space and trees and shading make the spaces more comfortable to be used.

Social housing – this element plays off of several ideas. The most important being the cost of the housing. Housing isn’t always affordable to everyone. Mixed income buildings provide access to different types of people and creates a unique culture within the building. A mix of people provides a sense of community that would not be seen in public spaces. This type of environment can see rise in temperature do to the different types of activities in each unit. To mitigate the rise in temperature the use of cross ventilation or mechanical cooling can be used.

One comparative example that is shared between a superilla and the Gracia are the pedestrian friendly streets and connectivity to transit. This provides for plaza space for residences to enjoy many activities and interact with one another.
