Genocide, Human rights laws within the BALKANS
The Balkan Wars, a series of conflicts between 1991 and 1999, were marked by widespread human rights violations, including mass killings, murder, systematic rape, torture, and other crimes against humanity. The International Court of Justice (EHCR) has consistently ruled that the constitutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina violate human rights, with the Bosnian War being a prime example. The wars included the war in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, and Kosovo, and included genocide, ethnic cleansing, crimes against humanity, and mass wartime rape. The International Court of Justice found that Serbia failed to prevent these crimes.
The Bosnian War, which included massacres such as the Bikoši massacre, Čukle massacre, Vitez massacre, and Mokronoge massacre, was marked by genocide and ethnic cleansing. The war also had a significant impact on the economy of Bosnia and Herzegovina, causing over €200 billion in material damages and reducing GDP by 90% between 1990 and 1995. The EHCR has repeatedly ruled in favor of a complaint by a Bosnian dignitary against Bosnia-Herzegovina, reinforcing the violation of human rights in the Balkan Wars.
The Greek Genocide, a genocide committed by Turkish forces in the Ottoman Empire, resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Greeks. The Greek Genocide, which began in 1955, was a mass killing and deportation of Greeks by Turkish forces, resulting in the extermination of Pontian and Anatolian Greeks, the destruction of Smyrna, and widespread ethnic cleansing in Greek areas of Asia Minor. Greece has been a member of the International Holocaust Remembrance Association since 2005, focusing on Holocaust education, remembrance, and research. The current Constitution of Greece, adopted in 1975, has been revised three times, guaranteeing significant individual and social rights. The United Nations reported a smaller Greek population in 2012, reaching 2,000. The genocide ended with the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923, allowing for a trade of people between Greece and Turkey.
