The “Green Cities” course examines the history and future of the interface between urban growth and environmental concerns, and the technological, social, and political forces that continue to shape it.

In addition to the core topics of sustainable development, urban resiliency and regeneration, the course will examine aviation planning and related topics such as airport planning, autonomous systems, eco-industrial air parks, environmental assessment, unmanned aircraft systems, urban air mobility, and others. The course will include a site visit and light aircraft flights at the Corvallis Municipal Airport, public hearing simulation at Harris Hall, research, unmanned aircraft systems photography (see below), and final report.

Corvallis Municipal Airport, City of Corvallis, Oregon

The Corvallis Municipal Airport is located approximately 5 miles south of the City’s downtown on Airport Avenue, off Highway 99W, and currently offers private and corporate aircraft services to the Corvallis community. Originally an Army air base, the airport was returned to the City after World War II. Numerous improvements over the years include utility systems, aircraft T-hangar storage, lighting, navigational aids, and runway and taxiway improvements. The airport has one fixed-base operator which provides fueling and aircraft maintenance services in addition to aircraft rental, charter services and pilot training classes.
