Strategic Planning

Strategic planning is something we’ve discussed in Cultural Administration as well, so it’s nice to have the overlap in this course. The term refers to the plans that an organization makes to meet their long term goals, usually three to five years out. This could entail marketing and branding for a specific goal in your long term plans. Strategic planning is thinking ahead to ensure you can make decisions and take actions that will help you reach those long term goals.

CRM (Customer Relationship Management)

Customer relationship management refers to actions companies and organizations can take to evaluate the interactions they have with customers. This helps improve the brand of the organization, as well as help the organization improve customer relations and meet customer needs. 5

Medium

This term is a broad one because it can be many different things. The medium is the way something is done or the way something is presented, especially in regards to what we’re doing in this course. The medium of our logos and brands right now is digital, in Illustrator. The medium of our printed posters will be the paper poster. Medium refers to how the content gets to the viewer.

Social Impact/Consequence

This is a newer term for me, but not a new concept. It’s nice to have a formal term for this now. The social impact or consequence, in one example, refers to the ramifications of putting something on the internet, on social media, where it has the ability to build and destroy, just like words in a face to face conversation. And unlike spoken words, online words or images are able to be shared and copied and re-shared and saved, giving them lasting power in the world and the ability to spread quickly.
