I’ve been thinking about a conversation we had in class on Tuesday based on the discussion of “things” vs. “art” and the processes that push us to call things art or not. Duchamp came up briefly in class, and I know he had much to say about this (and other) questions so I started digging around. In the recording below, he reads from one of his well known texts, which he originally presented at a 1957 symposium in Houston, TX hosted by the American Federation of the Arts. Give it a listen, and bring ideas to class on Tuesday (or keep them for later!)
