Welcome to the reboot of Art in Society (AAD 450/550) for Fall 2012. This post is a small orientation to the site, which I will go over in greater detail during the first meeting of class. You can find the syllabus here, or also by looking up at the page list running horizontally across the top right of your browser window. There is a downloadable PDF version of the syllabus on that page, but it’s more likely than not that any changes will most immediately show up in the “live” electronic version…

The post stream (i.e. everything immediately below or above this post) is the dynamic portion of the site, wherein new content will be appearing all term. Some of this will be things I post up to keep conversation going, some of it will be assignment-related, some of it may come from you all. We’ll talk about all of these options (and some others) in class…

The two sidebars to the right house a myriad of information and connections to other resources. I’ll be sure to detail what each subsection comprises, but feel free to poke around and get lost—you’ll likely end up with more questions that way, and push me to come up with answers. Should some of the resources confound you or push beyond your familiarity, or if you don’t have an account with Diigo, don’t worry. I’ll get everyone up and running early on.

There are several ways to stay on top of new content for this site and the post stream, ranging from visiting it directly every few days to getting automatic announcements in your inbox every time something is posted (some people like that, though it’d drive me nuts…). I’ll walk us through each option, and maybe some of you will have other suggestions. Again, we’ll all work together on the possibilities such that everyone gets the most out of class.

Looking forward to the first day!
