The term is starting, this site is changing…and the chaos begins!
As I prepare for the fall quarter—and my first solo run at teaching Art & Society—I’m finding the urge to reorganize the site slightly. I’m trying a new theme, as well as some new navigation structures and strategies. Student input in the first few weeks will be central to the success and/or directions of these changes, so please do speak up and make suggestions!
I’m looking forward to the first day of class on 9/28. Here are a few things to make note of/do:
° bring a “thing” to class for our first meeting; this “thing” can be an art object, something you found on the way, a piece of your past, etc. It will serve as a prop during our discussion, so make sure it is something you don’t mind everyone else quizzing you about!
° take a look at the resources I’ll be drawing on during this first day; the page is password protected (as are all other module resource pages), and I’ll be distributing the password during new student orientation…
° be aware the weeks 2 and 3 of the term will be a bit odd re: physical meetings of class. On Oct. 5 (week 2), I will be at the Oregon Arts Summit in Portland—as will you (hopefully). And then on Oct. 12, I will be away at a conference in Indiana. Class will meet so that the two student groups working on the collaborative essay assignment can present their work, but I will obviously not be there…Do not worry just yet, however, as we’ll discuss all of this on the first meeting!
