For this weeks assignment I wanted to explore a material that had similar properties to this. I like the inner glowing quality and thought it would be an interesting quality to add to the underside of I-5. Instead of using salt like the precedent I looked at I chose to use a recipe for hard candy to cast panels. Candy may seem like a weird thing to use but it actually worked out really well because its cheap to make (ie free because I already had all the ingredients), can be colored, have things added to it and pours like water (300 degree water) into molds. The only issue was to make sure the molds were water tight so molten sugar didn’t run everywhere. Here’s how it turned out!
I love the photos you created. They really show the optical qualities of the sugar.
Try cropping the top one and the whole set will sing.
