At the beginning of this term I changed my program of my building from something to do with industrial ecologies that I was having a hard time wrapping my head around and receiving a lot of criticism for to a research center for mycelium that makes an attempt to clean a toxic site and invites people inside to see all this cool technology. This made me have to do more research into mycelium technology which worked really well for me because I love the topic and I found a lot more informative resources about this new and exciting field. My thesis prep document mainly focused on the site because I was having so much trouble with the previous topic so it didn’t hurt me that much to change the program. However I did need to catch up on researching what exactly is involved with mycelium technology and how it could be implemented. I accomplished this during this term and wrote a fairly in depth research paper about the subject which has really help inform my design and back up my ideas with real proven facts. This technology is amazing, it is natural and acts to restore ecologies rather than destroy them and it often works better than the typical brutal interventions to clean toxins and create useful materials. I imagine most people will not be intrigued enough to read this entire paper but it does have a lot of information that supports my design decisions and if you do choose to read it I hope you find it informative. on a side note I find it a little funny that this blog picks up both mycelium and ecologies and incorrectly spelled words… maybe they know something we don’t.
