The first thing of master plan is to decide what is important to the site. The diagram below shows what are the important alley ways before on the original site where the old housings form the street edges.
As the pink lines are the most visible alleys before, they are significant circulation paths in the past too.
In my opinion, the important elements to define the street edges and the interfaces between building and people are the wall and streets.(includes height, material, street width and how people use the streets)
And these footprints are the starting of the urban fabric that fits into the old neighborhood on the southwest side of the site.
It could be felt even from the google map.
The who area from the lake at the northwest side of the larger volume of department stores to the southwest side of waterfront would be a large showcase of historical neighborhood preservation, while the site becomes a gathering spot for pedestrian. The site would become a bypass of the main pedestrian street of Jianghan Road on the northeast side and it will reduce the load pressure of Jianghan Road when it is a holiday when Jianghan Road is over loaded usually.
The site plan is following and it will help to shape the site and the building forms on the site area.
