Precedent Studies II

I’ve compiled a set of precedents that look at sloping and green roof forms, and articulation of building and nature interfaces.

I never though I would look to Zaha Hadid as a precedent, but Land Formation-One has inspired me to really experiment with my design. The Highline, a project I really adore and hope to someday visit, really plays with the notion of what is built and what is growing, and is fantastically detailed. Emilio Amasz’s project is interesting in that the built and grown elements are each powerful in their own right, but are embedded within one another. I included Hunertwasser’s work for its sense of playfulness– something that would be very welcome in a school (and, in my opinion, most everywhere). The Nanyang Technology Center School of Art, Design, and Media and the Block K apartments have interesting sloping green roof forms, and explore different ways of interacting with the growing roof (whether through stair access or cutout courtyards).
