Micro. Material Studies.
Experimenting with resin was a challenge, but I think I did figure out the limitations and opportunities working with the material. Time- curing and setup and systematic processes are major limitations. If multiple pours are done (as I did to cast), time is a limit. It did detract quite a bit of time from designing but it was a great opportunity to experiment and try something new.
I am not quite sure where these materials will land in my building- perhaps artist studios or partition walls, but it was a good exercise to consider color, light, and transparency for my design scheme.
Below are photos of the studies- various forms represented and light casting onto the material.
The first 5 photos are of the acrylic stack prior to casting in the resin. These reflect the idea of casting color or shadow on the facing surface. White on white. Pink on White. Pink on yellow. (and variations). Did not work well given the fact that when I cast the resin the paper soaked up the resin and lost its reflection properties. Had I taped the perimeter of the acrylic stack, it would have worked well.
Other reviewer comments which were helpful outside the macro & micro studies… I need to strengthen visually my thesis abstract proposal of local patterns and how I plan to “rebuild” the site. These are key to represent given at my review, the jurors all looked lost the first 5 mins. (maybe longer…)
Wonderful furnishings and paint choices. I wish I could view much more pictures!
