Final Project Progress

The majority of this week I have spent trying to track down a pattern for a German Christmas Pyramid.  I think using the same technique of using candles to power the kinetic movement of my fixture is intriguing.  Since the blade angle, candle height and connections need to be carefully calculated, I was hoping to use one of these patterns as a starting point.  Unfortunately, I have not been able to track a pattern down (in my price range).  So, I will need to work it out myself, which I’m hoping will be feasible with the time and cost restraints. I am waiting for a couple of books to come in the library that may be able to help but I highly doubt it.  (If anyone knows where to get a copy of the Scroll Saw magazine issue 21 or Volker Arnold’s pattern book 8 – Please let me know) :)

The other realization I came across this week was the light source.  I was hoping to use a regular bulb to illuminate my project, however, after doing multiple tests, the intensity of light is not strong enough for a regular bulb.

My next steps are to see if I can recreate a more intense light or if I need to adapt my shading device.  It would be ideal if I could use the same candles to power my fixture as to light it.
