The Moss Lab houses a dermestid beetle colony, which is a helpful way to skeletonize larger animals and get bones really clean, the bones only needing a light scrub with dish soap and water after the beetles have had their fill.


Above: A juvenile mountain beaver, too delicate for water or chemical treatments. Beetles were the way to go to get its bones clean.
