We wanted to do our multimedia story on animal services in Eugene because there are a wide array of services ranging from animal shelters, therapy animals, guide dogs, and dog rescues. Our group figured it would be fun to find out why people got involved in animal services, not just a sob story about a puppy that got rescued. It was a little bit tough in the beginning finding sources to contact, but we finally got a hold of six people who deal with different aspects of animal services in Eugene. When we went to interview Maureen from Horse T.A.I.L.S., we found a very interesting story that we were not expecting to find. She owns therapy horses that help people in recovery, but the reason she first got into therapy animals is because she was in recovery herself. She wanted to give back to the people who helped her overcome her addiction. So, we knew a video on her would be perfect. W could not film any of her work with clients because it is confidential, but for b-roll in our video, we had her show us what a client would typically do with the horses. We wanted to focus more on her background, rather than what the horses and donkey do. Maureen was very helpful and a little bashful around the camera. She only felt comfortable doing the interview if her horse, Rosie, was by her side. We decided to leave the audio as it was, rather than go inside a room and record it again, because in the background you can hear the horses eating hay and birds chirping.
