Stop Wishing. Start Doing

Waking up on this Friday definitely felt nice. The sunshine definitely put me in a very good mood and I felt that this was going to be a good day. I was ready for what I will learn today in BA 199. I got ready and headed to class.

When I got to class, I sat down and waited for Tayah to start speaking. She told us good morning and introduced two people who were going to speak to us during most of the class. First, one woman introduced herself and handed out a paper for us to do. First we had to determine whether we were underdeveloped, developing, or well-developed in particular skills that were listed. We took about five minutes to do this. It took a little bit for me to think about what skills I was developing in and what skills I was already developed in, but I was able to determine that half of the skills I was developing and the other half I was already well-developed in. After we did this, we then selected two skills and we had to share an example where we illustrated these skills. This took me some time as well, but I explained how I always put school first and how I always do my work before anything else, and these showed time management and continuous & engaged learner.

We then started talking about resumes and how to make them better. There is this method called WHO (What did you do? How did you do the work? Outcome of the work?). This is supposed to make a resume look more improved. We got another paper that had a sample resume. On one side was the resume that was made “Before WHO” and on the other side was the resume that was edited “After WHO.” There were differences and improvements made. After we did this, the two ladies finished their presentations and Tayah informed us of other stuff regarding class. Then we were dismissed.

What I learned from this class was realizing the skills that I have developed and how I can use them to my advantage in the future. Also learning about the WHO method will definitely come in handy because it will help me make a very good resume. Doing this will help me get a good internship/job in the future. Also knowing that there are people in the Lillis complex to help out with my resume will be beneficial. Overall, this class helped me see new methods and my skills and will help me for the future.
