Since its creation, social media has increased the overall knowledge of trends within our society. However, the use of social media itself has changed. It’s no longer just a place for people to share their own stories. Now people use social media to tell the stories of companies and organizations relating to anything– even dogs!

Because of this, people are taking to social media to market dog shelters, training services, and litters. Some people even market their own dogs as influencers. It has become more and more common to take to social media when searching to adopt a dog because of strategic marketing tactics and social media campaigns. Well-done branding changes the way society views an action.

Here are a few examples of some dog-related companies that are using social media to build their brands and their awareness:

Boutique Rescue

Adopting a rescue has become very popular when deciding to become a new animal owner. Nearly 3.2 million shelter animals are adopted each year according to the ASPCA. The Vanderpump Dog Foundation is a prime example of a boutique rescue center for dogs that has reconstructed the way an audience views rescue animals.

It was founded by the restaurant owner and Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Lisa Vanderpump. She believes that rescue pets should not be looked down upon but celebrated. Her boutique dog rescue organization creates an elevated rescue experience in which new dog owners can feel supported in their decision to rescue rather than going through a breeder or typical pet store. Vanderpump Dogs’ Instagram creates a fun, welcoming and elite aesthetic and sheds a glamorous light on the process of rescuing dogs, which is typically uncommon.

Breeders

It is valuable in both the long run and the short run if a breeder is more active on social media. If done correctly, social media has the power to grow a breeder’s network to people all over the world, providing more animals with homes and breeders with more revenue and exposure. Not only does this spike sales, but a pet account with a substantial amount of followers can make $10,000 to $15,000 per sponsored post. For example, Sunnyside Goldens’ Instagram @sunnnysidegoldens has 67,000 followers.

This account posts daily on its feed, as well as on its Instagram stories to showcase its new litters of Goldendoodles, Golden Retrievers and Bernedoodles. Sunnyside Goldens does a great job of interacting with its audience and is easily approachable through direct messaging, phone calls, and email– all listed on its profile. Today, breeders have transformed from a poorly designed eBay listing to an industry of success, benefitting breeders, animals and the new pet owners.

Dog Influencers

Thanks to Instagram, dog influencers have emerged, and many of them have more followers than established celebrities. Many of these dog influencers have become famous because they are pets of already established celebrities, such as @chewy_cho, the adorable dog owned by Arden Cho.

Some dogs have grown their following very organically. @itsdougthepug currently has 3.8 million followers, making him the most popular pug in the world. Leslie Mosier, Doug’s owner, quit her job to dedicate all her time to managing Doug’s Instagram handle once he started becoming extremely popular. She spends the majority of her time strategizing content, producing videos to post on the channel, and even making a book to sell that contains pictures of Doug. In 2019, Doug the Pugs net worth was $1 million

Doug the Pug has even become so popular that he won the People’s Choice Award. Additionally, like celebrities like Katy Perry and Cole Sprouse have been photographed with Doug. People of all ages can’t seem to get enough of dog content, and honestly, we can’t either.

Trainers

Our client, Creative Canine Solutions, is just another great example of how social media can help to spread the word about new pet companies. Creative Canine Solutions is a professional dog training company that was founded last month by Lauren Rubin. She helps dogs overcome reactivity, anxiety, and just bad manners with a loving approach. Rubin is committed to not reacting with punishment, which is a style of training that is very unique.

Creative Canine Solutions is a new business, but with the power of social media, Rubin has been able to spread the message and help people understand her services. Social media has allowed Lauren to post free, quick-tip videos so the public can gain valuable training help while also seeing Rubin’s style of training. Without the power of social media, it would be hard for people to understand the value and importance of the services offered at Creative Canine Solutions.

If you are looking to spread the word about your niche product or if you just want to share cute pics of your dog, Instagram is the place.  So let us know how you are marketing your pet in the comments below, and leave the handle of all your pet Insta’s. We can always use more dog content.
