The following are my learning reflections for Art in Society:

1) I am excited and eager to discover new and innovating ways in which art functions in todays modern society, and how it has changed over the past several decades.

Through discussions in class and readings from the numerous articles posted on the class website, my thoughts on art in the modern society have been broadened. Discussions of art participation and the future of art very much have me thinking differently about art in today’s society.

2) Learn how transmedia plays into the role of being a manager in the arts field. As a performer and educator I have never dug to deep in analyzing this field. It is quite interesting thinking about how everything has a story. Like the old saying “Someone’s trash is someone else’s treasure.”

I have learned that transmedia plays a HUGE role in what the consumer thinks. Society is highly influenced by what they hear and see on the internet. This class along with marketing, media and communications has helped me gain a better understanding of transmedia.

3) I want to incorporate what I learn in this course to the real world outside the classroom. I am ecstatic to see ballets, orchestra concerts, plays, ect, and use what I learn in class, and apply it to the arts & culture I see around Eugene and Oregon.

I will definitely think back on the concepts discussed in class when I enter the work field of arts administration.  Even now when I see shows and concerts I think about ideas from all of the readings. The concept of  “what is art” was a question brought up many times. I feel like have gained the tools to start answering this question now.

4) Learn how media can have both a positive and negative effect on the arts. I would like to leave this class with ways in which my future business can flourish with using media to help promote and sustain the business.

In class we discussed how influential media is on companies, in both a positive and negative way, so I would say yes, I have learned ways in which the internet can help my future business. 

5) Overall in this class, I am excited to learn new information every week. I would like to broaden my knowledge and horizons with any piece of info that will make me more successful with my endeavors in the future. Over the course of the class I am certain that I will learn subjects that I have never even known existed.

The class Art & Society did have me thinking about arts & culture in a way I had never imagined before.  I feel that I definitely know a lot more about aesthetics and art participation. This class had me thinking much more in-depth and reading deeper articles then I had in a while. This class has given me confidence in sharing my thoughts through the module responses and blog postings with others.
