Hands On Harmony Organizational Questions

1. What is your organization or company? Give background history including who, when, and why it was founded.

The company I will be doing this project on is called “Hands on Harmony.” It is a music business founded by myself and transportable according to the location I live. The company is a music studio where I teach piano and french horn lessons either in the students houses or at my own house. I started it in 2012 when I was in the Navy and moved to Naples Italy.  I started with only 2 students, and within a few months I had a studio of 10 children, and a wait list of constant calls coming in of parents who wanted lessons for their children. I am now trying to restart “Hands on Harmony” in Eugene Oregon, where I am working on my masters degree.

2. What do they do or make – describe the products and services and what makes them unique.

Hands on Harmony allows children to grow musically through music lessons. Most of my students are piano players. I teach children ages 4-18, of all levels. In addition to playing the piano during lessons I teach music history and music theory. I incorporate it based on what the child is working on in their lessons. For example if their book is introducing  eighth notes, I will create eighth note exercises for the student to work on. Hands on Harmony puts on an annual recital so the students can showcase their talents and progressions of the year. I show children that music is for everyone, and how to love playing music.  That music is not only notes on a page, but a way to express your emotions. My end goal is to hope that my passion and love for playing music is passed down to my students.

3. Describe the culture of the organization or company. What is the work environment like – the atmosphere? What is the building like – exterior/interior, architecture, fittings and furniture? How do the employees work together? What are the jobs and roles of individuals? How are they treated by management?

The atmosphere in hands on harmony is a positive one. I am constantly encouraging my students to practice and work to be the best musician they can be. I teach lessons either in my home, or the students home based on what works best for the family. Family’s with multiple children works better for me to go to their house, but children with one or two siblings I ask them to come to my house. As of right now my business in Eugene is just starting out so I am the only employee, so by default I am the manager, owner, marketing director, and sole teacher. In the future I hope to expand and hire on another teacher.

4. Who is the targeted audience? What are their demographics?

The targeted audience is children ages 4-18 in a middle class-wealthy house hold. I am trying to advertise and draw students from the Eugene area, close to where I live, near The Valley River Court Mall. Hands on Harmony teaches children both male and female, and of all ethnic backgrounds.

5. What is the organization or company mission statement?

Hand on Harmony- A Music Studio for Children
