on on The Yup’ik and Tlingit teams are preparing to collect benchmarking data in several districts three times during the 2025-2026 academic year. We are partnering with Anchorage, Chevak, Juneau, Lower Kuskokwim, Sitka, and Yupiit districts in this work. Teachers will be trained in administering the measures in August.
on The University of Oregon, on behalf of its Center on Teaching & Learning (University), is issuing this RFP for the procurement of the creation of literacy screeners for its Alaska Indigenous Languages project. The RFP can be found here: https://pcs.uoregon.edu/content/business-opportunities

on LSAIL team members will be present at the Alaska Native Language Summit on May 1, 2025. Our Cultural and Liguistic Ambassadors will provide an update on our progress and ongoing efforts, Elders from our Language Advisory Panels will participate in an Elder Panel, and our Ambassadors and other Language Panel members will help lead a language instructional sharing session. We hope to see you there!
on We are proud to announce that we have released an online tool for generating probes for letter-sound knowledge assessment that can be found at https://lsail.shinyapps.io/letters/.
Two types of probes can be created: a fluency probe, which repeats letters in a random sequence, and a survey probe, which assesses each letter once. Users can control which letters get assessed and can even add letters or letter combinations (e.g., blends, digraphs, diphthongs, special characters).
Currently available in English, Iñupiaq/Iñupiatun, Tlingit/Lingít Yoo Xʼatángi, and Yup’ik/Yugtun, it has a mechanism to suggest additional languages. A representative of the project will respond to suggestions as quickly as possible.
