BIO

Olga Sanchez Saltveit is currently enrolled in the U of O Theatre Arts PhD program. She is Artistic Director Emerita of Milagro, the NW’s premier Latino arts & culture organization, where she served as Artistic Director from 2003-2015.
A professional actor, director, writer, educator and a graduate of Hunter College, C.U.N.Y., her directorial work has been seen in Portland, Seattle, New York City, Martha’s Vineyard, Honduras, Peru, Venezuela and Cuba. Olga served as co-artistic director of the People’s Playhouse in New York City, artistic director of Seattle Teatro Latino and co-founded La Casa de Artes, a Seattle-based non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating the beauty of Latino arts and cultural heritage.
Born in Queens, NY, of Colombian heritage, she recovered her first language, Spanish, working with the communities of La Casa de Artes and Milagro. She holds an MA in Human Development, specialization in Bicultural Development, from Pacific Oaks College Northwest. In 2015, her work received a Portland Drama Critics’ DRAMMY award for Outstanding Achievement in Devised Work for Milagro’s production of ¡O ROMEO!. A founding member of the Portland-based Latino writers’ group Los Porteños, her play BROKEN PROMISES is currently on tour around the country with Teatro Milagro. As a TCG (Theatre Communications Group) Board Member, Olga served on the Executive Committee and the Diversity Task Force. She currently serves on the Steering Committee for the Latina/o Theatre Commons, a program of Howlround/Center for the Theatre Commons at Emerson College.
