About Your Scholarship

Award: WALKER EDUCATOR DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP

History of the Scholarship:

This scholarship was established by Tom and Jeanne Walker to provide financial assistance to culturally diverse students with financial need who have been accepted into the UO College of Education. Students should demonstrate an interest and commitment to teaching in a socio-economically disadvantaged community. The impetus for this partnership was to develop a way to recruit underrepresented students to the teaching profession and to get them back out to their communities.

In 2015, Jeanne passed away from a short battle with cancer. Tom and Jeanne’s daughter Nichole is a 2007 alum of the COE.

The award recipients will be selected on the basis of the following criteria:

• Academic merit

• Demonstrated financial need

• Demonstrated interest and commitment to teaching in a socio-economically disadvantaged community within a 100 mile radius of Eugene.

The following person established and supports this scholarship. Please feel free to handwrite a thank you card or send an email correspondence to coescholarships@uoregon.edu.
