Award: LUCINDA JANE CRISWELL SCHOLARSHIP

History of the Scholarship:

This endowment was established in 2008 by Lois J. Rawers in memory of her mother Lucinda Jane Criswell, a devoted wife and mother who led by example in a time when women had limited opportunities. Lucinda Jane Criswell was born into a farming family in rural Kentucky. Though her family moved frequently during her childhood causing large gaps in her early school experience, Lucinda capitalized on her later public school years and became accomplished in the business world as an expert bookkeeper and office manager. She always emphasized the importance of hard work and study making sure her own children had both the early and higher educational opportunities she missed. Lois Rawers is a retired elementary school principal in Corvallis and serves on the UO College of Education Advocacy Council. The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial assistance to graduate students or post baccalaureate students majoring in Teacher Education or Educational Leadership at the University of Oregon.

The selection of recipients for this award is based on the following:

• Academic merit

• Demonstrated financial need

• In addition, the donor has an expressed interest in promoting education for public schools in the state of Oregon by giving preference to students who are training to teach or become administrators in Oregon.

The following person established and supports this scholarship. In September,
you will be asked to write a card to thank her as well as craft a personal
