Learn how to correspond with donors to scholarships:
Read the tips and tricks below to feel confident that you are sharing appropriate information when thanking donors.
Why Say Thank You:
Scholarship donors are generous and caring people who give at all levels to support the educational endeavors of students like you.
Therefore, donors take an active interest in the studies and career pursuits of scholars. While they typically ask for nothing in return, receiving correspondence from a student is always special and lets the donor know that their scholarship was greatly appreciated.
Your note reminds them why they gave in the first place and often help secure continuing gifts for future students.
Making a Connection:
The goal of this correspondence is to thank donors for their contribution to your education and share a little about the impact the scholarship is/has made on your education outcomes.
Help Your Correspondence Have the Greatest Impact:
- Include information on your educational and geographic background up to this point.
- Share what program you are enrolled in and what you expect to accomplish, thanks in part to scholarship funding.
- Discuss how your scholarship has made a difference in your education, or if you have yet to begin at the UO, how it helped you make the decision to attend the College of Education.
Do
- Pay particular attention to spelling and grammar.
- Include the complete name of the scholarship in the body of the correspondence.
Do Not
- Mention the amount of your scholarship.
All correspondence between students and donors passes through the College of Education Office of College Development. The addresses of donors or students cannot be released.
