Mentorship/Research Opportunity: Transcription for decolonial ethnography

Mentor Name: Annie Caruso

Mentor Email Address: acaruso@uoregon.edu

Mentor’s Faculty Advisor: Drs. Philip Scher and Scott Fitzpatrick

Research Subfield: Cultural

Research Keywords:

Transcription, transcription, transcription!

Description of opportunity:

I am ethnographically investigating local community feedback to a Euro-American archaeological research project conducted on a small Caribbean island. I have dozens of recorded interviews with local community members that I now need to be transcribed before data analysis.

Number of opportunities available: 1-2

Specific tasks involved:

transcription of audio recorded interviews with Caribbean residents

Professional development and or skills to be gained:

Learning about the interview process and how to transcribe such data would be of value for anyone interested in cultural anthropological work, journalism, and/or communication studies. Typing skills will obviously be enhanced by this transcription work as well. Undergraduates would also have an opportunity to learn about the methods of this unique intradisciplinary research (the anthropology of archaeology and archaeological decolonization).
