Description of opportunity:

This study is located at the Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) and focuses on a group of approximately 250 Japanese macaques (Macaca fuscata). We study the adult males particularly, 14-16 individuals at any given time, with a focus on their social behavior and how they form social relationships. This project is especially interested in adult male-juvenile bonding, which has been observed for a number of years. Students will spend a summer at the ONPRC observing the Japanese macaques and collecting behavioral data with my support and assistance.

Professional development and or skills to be gained:

Undergraduates who remain with the project after the summer have the opportunity to participate in data analysis, statistics, paper writing, the publication process (with the potential for authorship), abstract-writing, and presentation at both university and national scientific conferences

Any certification, clearance, and/or previous training/experience required?

They will need IACUC training, and will need to complete training for the ONPRC and a federal background check through the ONPRC.
