To get myself prepared with the method research course, I talked to an international student of second year —— Pooria Manoochehri. Pooria’s terminal research program is to plan on an art district in Eugene.
The program is a group project, which there are 7 peoples involved in the program. Each of them takes care one aspect based on their background and academic concentration.
The research method Pooria is using can be divided into four different methods. In order to get information and learned from the existing similar program, Pooria goes through documents analysis, websites searching, site observations and interviews from the other existing programs and potential possibilities for their own program. And during his research he has put his focus especially on an art organization in Dallas.
After talking to Pooria and taking the first week’s classes, my learning goal of the courses can be concluded as below:
1 While talking to Pooria, I am very impressed by the research method of site observations he is using. Whenever it comes to research, the first thing comes to my mind is to sit straight and read through things. Being out there and observes what other people may have done is something that has never come across my mind. By taking the course, it is a goal for me to learn the variety ways of researching.
2 Even the past term do teach me a lot; I am still confused with my specific concentrate on art administration, it would be great if I can have an idea for my terminal project after taking the course.
3 Since my undergraduate is more likely close to market aspects, my past research methods have only been came across with analysis and data collection. I would like to develop at least another method in good shape at the end of this term.
4 by taking the first week classes, the concept of the “position of researchers” really makes me curious. What I have learned in my undergraduate keeps telling me let the data speaks for itself. The concept of the words “Objective” and “Subjective” can be interpreted in research makes me interested on how researchers can play their role during a research program.
