Video Assignment

Video Assignment – Students create a 2-4 minute video biopic or one based on a passion that represents who they are, an interest, etc… but the intent is to create a piece that demonstrates their knowledge of how to use video as a viable communication tool in their Arts Management area study; that it can be included as a work sample on their Showcase ePortfolio. Use of video and still images, and audio track editing is encouraged, as are other content features and editing unique to this presentation medium.

Use Adobe Photoshop to prepare images – size must be at least 800×600 pixels or better, 1026×768 pixels for optimal production using iMovie or other editors. Students are encouraged to use text screens where approroate to enhance their message, and an audio track must be included.

This will be exported in a Quicktime or MP4 video format at the Vimeo recommended export standards. Videos will be made accessible via Vimeo or another video sharing network. Students are strongly encouraged to sign up for a Vimeo account and use it as a video sharing option.

Video Play and Video Project Midterms – Winter 2011

First year students did an excellent job exploring using video as a story-telling medium. The intent of the Video Play exercise was to introduce students to basic video production and editing software and tools, selecting a topic of their choosing to tell a short story. The suggested time length was 30 seconds – definitely a challenge. The Video Project for the midterm was to produce a biopic and/or focus on an aspect of study, a passion, a personal representation; one that can be included as part of their showcase ePortfolios demonstrating knowledge and skill with multimedia applications and tools.

The results are entertaining, purposeful, moving, and more than anything offer insight to the individuals who created the videos. Impressive.
