Display Ads

Display Ads – Students will create a display ad for their organization. Intent is to promote an event, activity or some other aspect of the organization. Students will incorporate their logo/brand in the design. For this assignment it is recommended the design size of the ad be less than a 1/4 page. 1/6 0r 1/8 (approx 4″x4″) page is a good place to start. The intent of the assignment is to design for a small space and manage brand size, typography, and copy. You may select smaller sizes as well to up the challenge. Reference the Robin Williams readings and pay attention to good CRAP. I have included a link to the Eugene Weekly Ad Specs PDF that shows their standard sizes and rates. Eugene Weekly Ad Specs

The display ad will also be included in the Graphic Standards as a collateral piece.

Target date – 11.1.11

Programs used – Adobe Photoshop for any images – 300dpi, .tif file format – if gray scale, covert to gray scale mode in Photoshop prior to placing in Illustrator. Illustrator is used for the final assembly or production of your ad, and is saved as a .pdf. Remember to always save an original native file (.psd or .ai) of your pieces. You can also use InDesign to assemble your ad – I suggest Illustrator as I like the control it provides.

Examples and Help – Examples from past cohorts are on my blog. Ad campaign and design resource links can be found on my Advanced Information Design and Preso Diigo list, and in the Photoshop and Illustrator application “Help”.
