Arts and Administration Program Graduate Students Make a Difference in Lowell, OR

Seventeen students participating this Fall in Arts and Administration 451/551: Community Cultural Development engaged in fieldwork in Lowell, a town of population 1,000 located 20 miles outside Eugene. These students acted as community cultural consultants — with the goals of documenting community culture and cultural assets and providing ideas and plans for how to link cultural assets with community improvement strategies. Products from student work groups includes a design and grant proposal for a stage in Rolling Rock Park, video clips documenting landmarks and community leaders, and data documenting local culture and stories from the community. The class is taught by adjunct faculty member Bill Flood. Bill is a community cultural development consultant based in Portland.
