- 1832– Adolphe Quetelet established the Quetelet Index (currently known as the BMI scale), which helps determine what a healthy weight is with a factor of height.
- 1912– Kazimierz creates the concept of the vitamin, which is important for healthy functioning of the body.
- 1936– Harold Himsworth differentiate diabetes mellitus into ‘insulin-sensitive’ and ‘insulin-insensitive’ forms.
- 1941– The Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences released the first Recommended Daily allowances for human nutrition at the National Nutrition Conference for Defense.
- 1954– Dr. Gerschman introduces the free radical theory of aging.
- 1963– Weight Watchers, a program that has helped many people lose weight for their health, was founded by Jean Nidetech.
- 1965– Edward Mason invented the gastric bypass surgery to help obese people lose weight for their health.
- 1968– The 12 minute fitness test was created by Dr Ken Cooper. It is used as a way for the military, personal trainers, and sports teams to determine basic fitness.
- 1990– Nutrition Labeling and Education Act requires all packaged foods to bear nutrition labeling and all health claims for foods to be consistent with terms defined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
- 2009– Harvard discovers that Humans have both white and brown fat cells. This shows that white fat cells store fat, while brown fat cells help burn fat.
