Sections – learning objective for this term
Dear Students
I could not sleep without sending this email reminder about sections.
.
3 Rhino commands to extract sections:
- “Split” Use a copy of your model, make a vertical plane and split the work.
- “Section” This will extract the section cut. Take to Autocad or directly to Illustrator.
- “clippingplane” Matthew demo’d this in lab. 1:39m tutorial here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdVCiBBnDKQ
.
2 good sectional examples to Google:
1. “Diller Scofidio sections”
The GREAT thing about a sectional-perspective is that efficiently captures: Section, interior experiential information and exterior elevational information. Even a quick capture from Rhino with some quick Illustrator might be great for those of you with a great investment in your 3D models (very commendable!). THINK LINES! Line weight, line type, text, highlight color/texture.
Remember, its all about process and growth- not about the pressure of a final product. Enjoy the process.
Incomplete Manifesto

PS Again, Matthew will be in at 2pm with specific objectives to help you through sections and 3D to 2D workflow, and AutoCAD paperspace. I will try to stop in again in the later afternoon/early evening.
