  1. From object to field

The field describes a space that is not defined by fixed points or measurements but conditions purpose and activity. Field objects could be any formal or spatial matrix capable of unifying diverse elements while respecting the identity of each. Each element of the field is equal to all others and gets differentiated from them due to local conditions

  1. Geometric VS. Algebraic combination

This section outlines the classical conception of geometry individual elements arranged in ratios to create a whole. Although ratios are expressed numerically through algebra, ultimately, they create geometric proportions. Conventions of classical architecture propose that the overall design is paramount and hierarchical. The whole is proportional to service different needs, functions, and to create opportunities for development. Allen believes that intervention into space should develop through independent elements that create a whole. The local syntax should be observed, and respected and geometric schemas need not be imposed. The structure should be able to facilitate intervention without the necessity of reconfiguration.

  1. Walking out of cubism

It is said that Barnett Newman used a sequence of plane/line/plane to ‘walk out of the imperatives of cubist space and close the door behind him’ artists trying to break out of the cubist shadow felt that a complex language of faceted planes and figural fragments inherited from prewar European artists was inadequate to their larger ambitions. This created minimalism. It was an effort to rid artwork of the figurative or decorative character in order to foreground its architectural condition Traditionally a sculpture was primarily seen as an object, created with artistic intention. The rise of minimalism was a reaction to the decorative and figurative character of European art. Barry Le Va is one artist who redefined sculpture to include the field. Setting out either with intentions or random process, his works aim to incorporate the generation of form through events leading to the final configuration. For example, when working with wire mesh or poured latex, one cannot control the material. Instead, we can only establish conditions within the field in which the material will be used.

  1. Thick 2D: Moirés mats

An object within a field is not separate from the field it emerges from the field. When the form is created, it is intrinsically part of the field. A moiré can be described by a mathematical equation. A moiré is an effect produced by regular patterns that are manipulated to create irregularities. A field is essentially expressed horizontally in plan

  1. Flocks schools’ swarms’ crowds.

I liked this section I found that a set of simple rules can create an organic order, the flock adapts to its environment. A crowd has so many variables that it is a result that cannot be predicted. A crowd can be angry, joyous, violent. A crowd is simply an accumulation of people that must have momentum.
