Some Additional Rendering Examples

These are a few examples of how you can start to combine simple renderings with Make2D linework to generate drawings with a little bit of style and intent. The idea is to have these read as design drawings, rather than attempts to create photographs.

Here is one example of a process you can use. This involves 3 layers of make2d, turning on and off different layers in the model. Only one of these has hidden lines turned on. The first image shows the raw make2d output. Then the resized and aligned linework with lineweights applied. Third is the raw render output and the zoomed/cropped and Photoshop-adjusted render image that will be the underlay. There is a sky added to the background as well – easy to do because the V-ray output was saved as a PNG, giving a blank background. Finally, the completed image, with less opacity on the render image (just enough to show the daylighting effect), the linework set to the “Multiply” opacity mode, and a person added as a new layer. The final image is assembled in Illustrator.222intex-01 222intex-02 222intex-03

This process can be applied to axonometric or aerial views as well. This was done with one material and only environmental light (HDR skylight).granville public space axons-03

Here’s the process used by LTL Architects – similar in nature but incorporates hand drawing and rendering in multiple layers for an even more stylized look: http://ltlarchitects.com/over-drawing/

Here are some examples with no rendering in V-ray, only adding tones:
