Moellentine_Lorine_1.1 Research
Several times driving around Eugene I have noticed these round modular huts in various parking lots. As most of the locations did not have any obvious signage, I did a google search to find that these spaces are home to Safe Spot Communities (SSCs). With varying locations in Eugene, some of which are legal locations for public camping, these built huts are affordable solutions for issues of houselessness in Eugene. Priced at $2,500, people are able to rent or buy these units as temporary shelters while they work on safely building up their support system. Residents typically are there for 10 months until transitioning to more permanent locations. With tiny homes costing up to $10,000 to $20,000, the Conestoga Huts are an affordable and efficient solution. Located on their website includes an instruction manual on how to build one yourself!
Sized at 60sqft of living space and 20sqft of outdoor space, residents have access to water, electricity and CSS Action Plan Advisors for further support. Several sites around Eugene support veterans, people with disabilities, and a site for a mixed population.
