Reading Response – Jane Jacobs & Manuel De Landa
In “The Nature of Economies” by Jane Jacobs, one quote stood out to me: “the mistake is to conclude in advance that you already have the answer you need – maybe you do, but probably you don’t” (139). This class has taught me to not assume – to look at multiple sets of data and see what is happening in the environment. Design is not about assuming what people want or need, but looking at the site context, collecting data, asking important questions, and then proceeding.
