Research – Creating Social Space

“Well-designed public spaces make for healthier, more creative and inclusive cities, where regardless of economic status, gender, age, ethnicity, or religion, everyone can participate in the opportunities that cities offer.”

Creating Social Space in an Urban Landscape

Cities all around the world fall into an outdated model of the ideal city. We know now that designing around busy roads and freeways with little thought about the human-scaled qualities of a vibrant city does not produce a healthy, safe, or engaging urban landscape. Embracing community connections by rethinking the structure of social spaces points us in the direction of a more inclusive and vibrant future.

Without a true sense of place in your neighborhood, our community connections weaken, and how we operate day-to-day results in a feeling of isolation with poor implications on mental health. Focusing on an urban landscape that fosters well-being and promotes safe interaction with others is the only available option in order to counteract the recent effects of covid-19. Not only this but creating inclusive access within your local area (without a vehicle) to useful amenities contribute the most to reinforcing a successful urban plan and neighborhood/community with identity.
