“A human-scaled GIS: measuring and visualizing social interaction in Barcelona’s Superilles”
- The combined use of GIS, Rhino, and Grasshopper as well as a creative way of assigning numbers and values to otherwise unquantifiable data led to the success of measuring social qualities of the superilles.
- Barcelona’s superilles were found to be an effective urban design strategy to reduce the amount of vehicle traffic within a set of blocks in order to encourage and promote social interaction and occupant health for those who visit and/or reside there.
- This new method of data collection and concepts pulled from existing superilla projects can be implemented by architects and urban designers to identify and solve urban issues within their cities.
