Kogohi Bathhouse: Shizuoka, Japan

Kogohi Bathhouse: Shizuoka, Japan

The Kogohi Bathhouse, or the Horai Onsen,  is located in Shizuoka, Japan. The Kogohi is a bathhouse that serves the people of the community. The bathhouse is made of wood, plastic and steel. Protected by the plastic roof and railing, this outdoor bath is intended to be a public place of relaxation. That being said, the bathhouse is located halfway up a cliff. The path to the bath, as well as the bath itself, are intended to create a feeling of reflection and refuge for its users. This is vital to the Japanese customs which had disappeared architecturally in previous decades.
