Project 1 – Wall Project Outline for Monday

Two-Word Title (Affect + Material Variation)

Purpose Statement (paragraph of 3 sentences):

  • What affect does the project have on people and who does it affect?
  • What are three conditions of the affect and how are they accomplished with the material variation?
  • Why is it important?

Conceptual Image of Affect: 1 image of the feeling printed in color 11×17

Measuring Affect Experiment: experiment with a real-world precedent. Measure with a ruler, light meter (phone sensor/app), sound meter (phone sensor/app), etc. Diagram this, hardlined pencil on trace/vellum. Name emergent 3-5 conditions of the quality. Use 1) your own human experience and 2) consider inclusive design for various types of people. What is the variation (ex. height, depth, thickness, etc).

Affect conditions:

Plans

  • (3) cut at 2.5ft, 5.0ft and 7.5 ft above the ground. Scaled 1″ = 1′-0″. Pencil on trace.
  • series of 7 sections at 1/8″   (see Miralles Pinos drawings)

Sections

  • (3) cut at key different conditions. Scaled 1″ = 1′-0″. Pencil on trace.
  • series of 7 sections at 1/8″   (see Miralles Pinos drawings). **This should inform the “assembly model” below.

***All drawings should be NEATLY drawn with careful differences of line weight (cut, change of plane and line beyond) and line types (solid, dashed, dash dot, centerline)

Affect via Material Assembly:

  • Assembly: test assembling 3-5 conditions of assembly of the final model materials (see assignment). Scaled 1″ = 1′-0″. Do NOT model the whole wall. Test conditions. Do they work? What did you learn from the Lawrence Shop Visit?
  • General Model: Test various conditions of the entire wall. Scaled 1″ = 1′-0″. Any material. Be conscious of additive technique vs subtractive technique.
