Project 02: Data + Design with due dates

Project 02: Data + Design

Design with Atmosphere and Phenomena (perceptions)

.

I. Design Research and Theory, Pyrennes visit and 3mx3m selection, Design Module Adaptation, Method Workshops, Data Acquisition and Visualization

We will investigate a design charrette that tests your theoretical inquiry of urban ecology primarily in a shelter and garden design to extend design of your Superilla projects.

Your shekter and garden design will include areas of sound, air, water and or heat/light as well as a lens of effective social interaction.

.

Project 02 Outline

I, Week 07 – Idea, Location, Program and module from previous project, atmospheric or social qualities to filter. Data collection.

II, Week 08 – Design refinement. Data collection analysis. Participatory design understanding.

III, Week 09 – Design refinement, visualizations and findings.

.

Get into groups of 2 (1 person can work alone).

***Due by end of day Wednesday, August 1:

  • Decide which Project 1 you will begin with. Decide on primary urban ecology and human comfort problems in Barcelona you will address: sound, air quality, water and biofilia or gentrification.
  • Decide on a previously designed project as a starting point or charrette a 3mx3m open aired public shelter.
  • Decide on a previous Project 1 Superilla design.
  • Program – list and diagram in plan
  • Idea / Qualities / Indicators
  • Choose a location in a Superilla street or plaza.
  • Choose a location for the adjacent 3m x 3m Pyrennes garden. (document 3 optional site near Vall de Nuria – drop pin, photograph, diagram as per first days of program, ratings, sensors, etc.)

[deliverables: sketches, diagrams, blog post]

***Due Monday, August 6, 10am:

  • Identify differences of climate conditions for previous site and Barcelona Superilla.
  • Project description – what, how and why important.
  • sketch designs and discuss with group.
  • render with superimposed numerical and descriptive data values.
  • small 3d parti with sun path, wind rose, and or other external forces.
  • remote sensing, situated technologies and robotics applications?
  • Thoughts about participatory design, to be reviewed with Deni Ruggeri.
