Key portfolio considerations:
- Make your cover page meaningful and unique to yourself.
- Have a brief resume + table of contents, but a headshot or image of yourself is usually not advised when applying within the US.
- Keep a consistent layout and text hierarchy, only use one or two typefaces.
- Tell a story with your visuals, keep text descriptions to a minimum as they are usually not read and can make pages unnecessarily complex.
- Show your BEST work, not necessarily all of it.
- Process diagrams / hand media / physical models are a nice touch to include sparingly.
- Check the expectations for each position that you apply for, many have specific page counts or other limits.
- Use your connections for feedback! Many of your professors and friends may have created portfolios for similar reasons and can assist you in the process.
- MAKE IT LOOK BEAUTIFUL
